Confirmation Discussion

February 18th, 2006

Epiphany mini-courses have two more weeks! We will continue our discussion on teen spirituality by picking up the topic of confirmation. I am enclosing a copy of brief readings on confirmation theology from three liturgical traditions. I am not expecting that you will have read this document before class, but if you’re up this late, you might want to take a look at this document. Tomorrow’s discussion and next week’s discussion will focus on confirmation.

I had promised a panel discussion with youth, particularly the ninth grade Sunday School class. We will do this in another forum — with perhaps adults being invited to the ninth grade Sunday School class. However, the ninth grade Sunday School is being reorganized so we (mostly the teachers) need a bit more time.

So, enjoy the articles. Two of the articles are by a young Lutheran seminarian. His research on the history of confirmation in the Lutheran church is clear — but what is facinating is how this young man’s confirmation theology was influenced by his own confirmation experience (or not influenced by his confirmation experience) you be the judge.

Due to technical issues, I have been slow on blogging. Starting Feb 24 through Mar 8, the blog will focus on a conference I will be attending in New York, but I hope this may become a venue for me to communicate with you after mid-March.

By the way BT really wants to know if anyone is interested in continuing the discussion of youth spirituality and confirmation with a workshop or through adult education. If so, please try to comment on the blog or email BT.

See you tomorrow!
